Why it is Beneficial to Take Flaxseed Oil For Cholesterol

There are many reasons why it is beneficial to include flaxseed oil in your diet, but if you if you use flaxseed oil for cholesterol, it can be a very effective method for controlling it.

Although the original growers would have known nothing about cholesterol, flaxseed has been grown and used in Europe for over 7000 years, recognized in these early times for its healing properties in balms and slurries.

Modern studies have shown that flaxseed oil is one of the richest sources of omega 3 fatty acids which are an important requirement for good health and can play an important role in the control of cholesterol.

If you suffer from high cholesterol, it is a serious condition and every possible method should be sought to deal with it. It can increase the risk of stroke or heart attack, because the arteries become narrow, so it is important to eat a healthy diet and to take regular exercise. as well as taking any medication prescribed by your doctor.

Another way is to include in your diet flaxseed oil, this can be a pleasant and convenient way of increasing your intake of the omega 3 fatty acids.

Although a study published in the July 2010 "Journal of Lipid Research." has shown that fish oil is very effective at preventing atherosclerosis (high cholesterol), few people can tolerate the taste and would be unlikely to consume fish oil every day, whereas they can easily find ways to use flaxseed oil.

We have been led to believe that all cholesterol is bad, when this is in fact not the case. Among other things, cholesterol is naturally found in every cell in the body, it forms the membrane which encloses each cell.

It is converted by sunlight into vitamin D, which controls the use of calcium, so we should not seek to eliminate cholesterol, but to keep it at a healthy level. It is when the levels become too high that the cholesterol becomes rancid and then sticks to the walls of the arteries which causes them to become narrow. This is of course a much simplified explanation!

Whilst it is not suitable for cooking there are several ways of including flaxseed oil in your diet. It has a nutty taste which many people like and it can be included with fruit juices, fresh fruits such pineapple, strawberries as an ingredient in salad dressings, breakfast cereals such as oat meal and in cottage cheese. The latter works extremely well as the protein in the cottage cheese combines with the oil which makes it easier for the body to absorb.

If you use flaxseed oil for cholesterol, reduce the amount of fatty foods that you eat to allow for the extra calories it contains. Reducing the fat that you eat is also a good way to decrease high cholesterol levels.

It is best to initially buy a small bottle and experiment with ways of using flaxseed oil. It should be in a dark or opaque bottle as light will cause it to spoil and it should be stored in the refrigerator.

 

Note: NEVER HEAT FLAXSEED OIL because heat will destroy the nutrients and literally change the molecular structure of this healthy fat, changing it into an unhealthy fat.
