Flaxseed Oil - Weight Loss
While some of us may be aware of the many health benefits of including flaxseed oil in our everyday diets, it
may not be generally known that this remarkable oil can help with the battle to lose weight.
Flaxseed oil for weight loss is a convenient and pleasant way to help you lose weight, it is a powerful
antioxidant which can boost your metabolism, this means that you will burn off the calories at a faster rate. There
is also the theory that the omega 3 fatty acids contained in flaxseed oil can help prevent food cravings.
You may be wondering how taking oil, which is a type of fat in your diet can possibly help you to lose weight,
after all we have been led to believe that all oils and fats are bad for us, but in the case of flaxseed oil it is
a little different.
Although it is technically a fat, flaxseed oil is really an anti fat. This is because it is
the total opposite of saturated fat (the bad one) which we are all warned against. This is the fat that plays
its part in heart disease, obesity and other serious illnesses. Flaxseed oil can not only help prevent these
conditions, it may actually reverse them.
It works this way, the omega 3 fatty acids in flaxseed oil are known to be essential nutrients, this means, put
simply that your body cannot utilize other food sources and convert them into these essential fatty acids. Because
of this your body is searching for these nutrients in the foods which you eat and if they are not present, cravings
can result because of this deficiency and you find yourself wanting to eat fatty foods and sweets.
When you try to reduce weight by restricting the intake of calories, your body goes into a self preservation
mode which has been built into the genes from thousands of years ago, when food supplies were erratic. What happens
is that your body believing you are starving, reduces the level of your metabolism to compensate, so that you use
less calories.
The problems start when you begin to eat normally again, because your body anticipating another possible famine,
as it see it, hoards calories in the form of fat so that you can survive. Repeat the process and you can gain
weight every time. This is why low calorie diets are ineffective for many people.
Note: NEVER HEAT FLAXSEED OIL because heat will
destroy the nutrients and literally change the molecular structure of this healthy fat, changing it into an
unhealthy fat.
Using flaxseed oil for weight loss is an entirely different approach, you can add it to many foods such as
cottage cheese, fruit, salad dressings, breakfast cereals, or even in a glass of water. Its taste is nutty and not
unpleasant.
When you consume flaxseed oil, it makes the stomach retain the food you have eaten for longer than if you had
eaten low or no fat foods. The oil causes a gradual release of food into the small intestine, this in turn gives a
sustained, slow rise in blood sugar, which peaks and then gradually drops. This means you feel fuller for longer
and have eaten less calories than with a conventional low fat diet.
If you have tried and failed with other methods, try using flaxseed oil for weight loss, you may even forget
that you are "on a diet" at all!
